Merging Tags

To combine duplicate or similar tags:

  1. Decide which tag name to keep

  3. Remove the deprecated tag
  4. Items now unified under one tag

Best Practices

Be Consistent

  • Use the same tag format throughout
  • Decide on singular vs plural (client vs clients)
  • Standardize capitalization
  • Document your tagging system

Keep It Simple

  • Start with few tags, expand as needed
  • Avoid overly specific tags
  • Merge similar tags periodically
  • Delete unused tags

Use Meaningful Names

Good tags:

  • sales-call
  • product-feedback
  • partnership-discussion

Avoid:

  • misc
  • stuff
  • temp

Review Regularly

  • Audit tags monthly
  • Merge duplicates
  • Remove unused tags
  • Update naming as needed

Tag Thoughtfully

  • Don't over-tag (3-5 tags per item is usually enough)
  • Tag immediately when creating items
  • Consider future searchability
  • Think about how you'll look for this later

Tips

Quick Tagging

Type the first few letters of a tag name to filter suggestions. Press Enter to add the highlighted tag quickly.

Tag Everything

Consistent tagging pays off over time. Make it a habit to tag new items immediately.

Use Tags with Search

Combine tag filters with text search for powerful queries. Example: Find all interactions tagged "client:acme" that mention "pricing".
